259 Albertans have been hospitalized with the flu

In the Alberta Health Service’s North Zone, that includes the RMWB, 35 people have been diagnosed with the flu this season.

8 of those cases resulting in hospitalization.

Those numbers may seem small compared to last year’s final tally of 585 confirmed cases of the flu, however, the AHS is only three months into the 9 month flu season.

There have been only 4 confirmed deaths out of the 259 people hospitalized related to the influenza virus, none of them were in the North Zone.

The AHS recommends anyone with flu-like symptoms to cover their mouths when they cough, wash their hands frequently, and to stay home to stem the spread of the virus.

So far the AHS has administered out over a million flu vaccines to Albertans this season.
