$31,535 raised at Moonlight Classic Golf Tournament

The Centre of Hope is glowing from a successful Moonlight Classic.

The second annual event took place on Saturday night, raising over $30,000 for the Centre.

"The Moonlight Classic this year raised $31,535." says Funds Coordinator, Vanja Taha, who adds this event marks the biggest fundraiser for the Centre to date. "Last year we raised just over $8,000."

Taha says the money raised will go to support their outreach programs.

"The funds raised from the Moonlight Classic will be going to support and expand our outreach program." explains Taha. "So we will be adding a part time outreach coordinator to offer the outreach program services during the weekend hours."

Over 80 golfers took part in the event that ran until early Sunday morning.

"Our street reach is under the outreach program." says Taha. "This is when we go out into the community and look for homeless individuals in our community that might not be accessing the centre. We provide them with bottled water, toiletries and snacks and right now of course sunscreen and bug spray. With the money raised we are going to be able to buy all of those items."

Councillor Phil Meagher took home the prize for most "lit" up person on the course
