Alberta's manufacturing sales aren't in line with national trends

The petroleum and coal industry is making up for a decrease in sales across the country.

Manufacturing sales declined 0.5 per cent to $48.2 billion in June, according to Statistics Canada. It's the fourth decrease in six months.

The decline is part of downward trend that started in the spring of 2012.

In the petroleum and coal product industry, sales increased 7.4 per cent to $6.7 billion. The higher sales mostly stemmed from refineries that ramped up production and sales following some calm during maintenance and retooling work.

In Alberta, sales were up 0.1 per cent in June, despite flooding across the province.
