Allen, Scott elected as Tory majority maintained

Progressive Conservative Mike Allen is the new representative for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo, usurping long-time MLA, and Wildrose Party member Guy Boutilier.

Tory member Don Scott claims the seat in Fort McMurray-Conklin, beating out his primary adversary, the Wildrose's Doug Faulkner.

The pair will abandon their post as municipal councillors to serve as part of the majority Alison Redford government, marking 42 years in power.

Former MLA and mayor Fort McMurray, Boutilier tells Fort McMurray News, he feels honoured to have had such a long political career in our region.

" I know one thing that Mike (Allen) and I do have in common is we love Fort McMurray, and it's been and honour and privilege to serve the residents of Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo and I accept their decision," said Boutilier.

Unofficially, Allen won 48 per cent of the vote, compared to Boutilier at 43 per cent.

While Scott garnered 49 per cent of the vote compared to Faulkner at 40 per cent.

More than 12,000 voters turned out to the polls across both local electoral districts.
