Autopsy results pending in downtown death

Wood Buffalo RCMP is keeping mum on the case surrounding the death of a woman, discovered in a downtown snowbank.

A 24-year old woman, originally from Montreal, was found lying underneath a low balcony of an apartment building on Biggs Avenue on January 27th.

Constable Christina Wilkins says so far, an autopsy has been completed.

"I do know that the investigation is still ongoing," says Wilkins. "We are waiting, still waiting on the report from the medical examiner's office to be able to confirm the actual cause of this. And again, that's not unusual in cases like this. These things just take time."

The victim's name will not be released, but police issued a photograph of the woman, looking to retrace her steps.

Investigators say she spent the night prior to her death at Club NV with an unidentified man wearing work pants with horizontal fluorescent stripes along the cuffs.

She left the bar alone at approximately 2:00 a.m and died a short time later.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact police at 788-4000 or the Crime Stoppers hot line at 1-800-222-TIPS.
