Brian and Gail Snook Receive 2017 National Philanthropy Day Award

Two Fort McMurray residents are receiving a special award for their work helping the Northern Lights Health Foundation.

Brian and Gail Snook are the recipients of a 2017 National Philanthropy Day Award.

National Philanthropy Day, which is celebrated on November 9, highlights the accomplishments people make to their community, and the world.

Ever since their son Jeremy passed away from brain cancer, they have raised $350,000 for the NLHF’s palliative care services – a project a part of their gratitude campaign.

“Our son Jeremy was the light of our lives and every day we miss and mourn him. We have focused our volunteer time and fundraising efforts on a partnership with the Northern Lights Health Foundation to create and run the annual Jeremy Snook Memorial Raffle in honour of our son,” Gail Snook, in a release.

“Together we are building a legacy that will result in better palliative care for other families facing the passing of a loved one. It’s the toughest thing to ever go through and we want to

make sure the facilities are there for families and friends to spend every moment possible together.”

Brian Snook, along with his sister and representatives from the NLHF, were in attendance to receive the award at the Edmonton Association of Fundraising Professionals awards celebration luncheon.

"Brian and Gail truly represent the 5 P's of Giving," said Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the Northern Lights Health Foundation. “They are passionate, proactive,

prepared, they plan and they have a powerful impact creating generosity in others.”
