Events Wood Buffalo is taking a diversion from rock and roll to bring hip-hop, rap and world music to Fort McMurray this Summer.

The line-up for Nexen Canada Rocks 2012, announced today, includes K' naan and Classified.

Executive Director, David Whitelock says he wanted to bring Fort McMurray headliners that would be attractive to our region's youthful population.

"Everyone kind of associates rock with a more hard edged sound or even a classic sound, but rock's expanded into so many different areas...so i think we've got a real strong cross section of artists this year that covers all demographics represented by our region, " said Whitelock.

Tickets for the Canada Day celebrations go on sale May 1st.
