A cancer patient navigator is being implemented in Fort McMurray

Balancing treatment, tests and appointments, along with finances and family matters.

It can prove to be too much for a cancer patient.

Alberta Health Services is implementing cancer patient navigators into 15 community cancer centres across the province, including Fort McMurray.

The specially trained nurses will assist in preparing for treatments and following up on patients afterwards.

As well as helping clients access financial resources and community supports.
AHS say the recently implemented navigators have already helped upwards of 50 per cent of new consults in community cancer centres.

Service is available to Albertans with a confirmed diagnosis of cancer as well as their families.
