Both the Oil Barons and Thunder got their first taste of the Northern Classic Thursday, practicing on the outdoor rink that will host 5000 fans tonight.

Listening to players and coaches, the theme around the historic hockey game seems to be that it's about more than just two points. MOB forward Ben Lake told Fort McMurray News, "Obviously we want to win the game, but this experience is huge. We're probably never going to have this again and its huge for the community being able to do this, we just want to go out there and get a win for the fans for all they've done for us in helping out".

MacDonald Island Park will be closed to traffic and 3:00 pm today, for a full free bus schedule, visit www.northernclassic.ca
