Crews will resume search for missing boater this weekend

Crews are keeping a eye on Lac Lac Biche Lake, flying over the area to look for signs of a missing boater.

Donald Stratton, 69, fell off a boat last Friday with a 62-year-old man. His companion swam to shore, but Stratton was last seen clinging on to the boat. Constable Chris Clark of the Lac La Biche RCMP says Mounties and Little Divide Search and Rescue will be heading to the lake again this Sunday for the third day of rescue operations.

"It will be air, shore and water surface," says Clark. "We'll be utilizing a sonar device on that day as well just in case we do need it. But we expect, by Sunday, we will be able to locate Mr. Stratton."

Air patrols from Alberta Sustainable Resources have been told to fly over the lake on their way back to the Lac La Biche airport in the meantime.

Stratton and the 62-year-old were out retrieving a fishing net when a wave struck their boat. Conditions were poor at the time and the waters were rough. Both men were not wearing life jackets.
