CUPE, Municipality Reach Collective Bargaining Agreement

Union municipal employees will be getting a four per cent raise over the next three years.

Wood Buffalo council held a special meeting on Tuesday, approving a new collective bargaining agreement with CUPE 1505.

The 891 employees ratified the deal on Monday.

As part of the deal, they will receive a 1.5 per cent raise in 2018 – plus 1.25 per cent raises in 2019 and 2020.

CAO Annette Antoniak says this will amount to $4.4 million.

Union employees will also get better protection for personal or family responsibility leave and critical illness leave.

The municipality has also improved the language for outsourcing work.

Human Resources Director Kari Donnelly tells Fort McMurray News they were nowhere near a strike through the 8 months of deliberations.

Summer Recess

Council is getting an extension on their summer break.

They were originally scheduled to meet on August 28th but voted in favor of pushing the meeting back a week to September 4.

This because of school schedules and the Labour Day weekend.
