Dog Unharmed After Being Found Abandoned South Of Fort McMurray

Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating after a person allegedly abandoned a dog south of Fort McMurray.

The Integrated Traffic Unit says last Thursday around 6 p.m. someone in a black pickup truck was seen pushing a red husky-mix out of the vehicle on a dirt road adjacent to Highway 63 near kilometre marker 180.

A citizen told officers patrolling the area the vehicle then sped off south down the highway, leaving the dog behind.

ITU officers found the dog without any injuries and took it to the RMWB’s animal control centre.

Police are reminding people that abandoning an animal may result in legal consequences and criminal prosecution.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
