Dozens of animals killed at oil sands sites in recent years
While Syncrude stands trial, charged in the deaths of over 1600 ducks in a tailings pond.
Government documents obtained by Greenpeace, under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, show 164 other animals died on oil sands site operated by Syncrude, Suncor and Albian Sands between 2000 and 2008.
Including bears, wolves, foxes and moose.
Causes of death were not included, but the document listed euthanasia of problem wildlife, drowning or oiling from tailings, animals hitting infrastructure or vehicles and electrocution as possible causes.
