No drastic change in property taxes this year for homeowners
Home owners in Wood Buffalo won't be seeing drastic changes in property taxes this year, but the rural companies will.
First reading to the 2008 Tax Rate Bylaw was given last night at council, with urban residential taxes remaining the same from 2007.
CAO Rodney Burkard says this means home-owners in Fort McMurray will only see small changes in the amount of taxes paid.
The same isn't true for the big companies outside of Fort McMurray though.
Oilsands companies and all other rural non-residential, will see a property tax increase of 20 percent in 2008.
That'll equal about 30-million dollars for the Municipality to spend.
