Dunvegan Gardens Future Could Be Decided at Next Council Meeting

sDunvegan Garden’s nearly eight-year battle could be coming to an end this week.

Wood Buffalo council will discuss the idea of changing the designation of their boundary in Draper – which will allow them to continue their full operations.

In March 2017, the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board decided that Dunvegan could continue operations but needed to get new applications within one year.

"If they vote it all down, the doors on the front end will close, the greenhouse might be open - the giftware and Christmas Wonderland, those types of things, will be all finished," said Brad Friesen, VP of Operations.

The approval is up in the air after Dunvegan received multiple orders after evidence of unsafe water, electric, and heating systems – something Friesen says was over exaggerated.

Meanwhile, the RMWB says this will be a fair meeting and will involve public engagement and discussions before a vote is done.

So far, there have been 234 written submissions – 222 in support and 12 against.

Residents will also get a chance to speak at the meeting with 27 already signed up – the majority in opposition.

Council will meet Tuesday with the meeting getting underway at 6 p.m.
