Empty Bowls Festival Raises Over $16K For Wood Buffalo Food Bank

Hundreds of residents braved the cold weather over the weekend to help the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.

The group held its 3rd annual ‘Empty Bowls Festival’ on Sunday where people bought locally hand-crafted bowls and tasted food from eight stations hosted by local restaurants.

The event was able to raise $16,900 and will go to the WB Food Bank. Last year, the festival was able to raise around $25,000.

“Even though the weather was not what we had hoped for, we are so pleased to have seen so many people bundle up and come out to support us regardless, especially our volunteers who worked through the rain and wind to help make this event another success,” said Dan Edwards, Executive Director of the WBFB.

People were also given a chance to buy 15 celebrity bowls and other items, which designed by local artists, through a silent auction.

“We look forward to the next year and continuing to grow this great event,” added Edwards.
