Evacuation For Some Fort McKay Residents After Gas Leak

Around 75 homes in the Fort McKay First Nation have been evacuated after a hit gas line in the rural hamlet.

The FMFN says a piece of equipment ruptured a gas service line in the area of the new Riverside Care Facility.

Affected residents are being moved to temporary locations until it’s safe to return.

Wood Buffalo RCMP have currently blocked off access to the rural hamlet, however, Highway 63 northbound remains open.

ATCO Gas crews are currently on scene trying to fix the problem.

There’s still no timeline on when the leak should be patched up.

The municipality says there’s no public risk at this time.
