Don't ruin your long weekend by making a mistake behind the wheel.
That's the message from local police, who will be stepping up enforcement over the coming days.
"Plan ahead. If you have plans of going out and enjoying the evening or what have you, plan ahead, be responsible. There are many options for getting home safely. Getting behind the wheel of a car when you've consumed alcohol is not one of them," said Cst. Christina Wilkins with the Wood Buffalo RCMP.
While police prefer not to give away where or when they will be stationed, Wilkins warns they will be watching.
"I can say that typically on long weekends the RCMP as well as our law enforcement partners are usually out in full force."
Meanwhile, police say that impaired driving is their focus for all of August.
