Federal Government, COSIA Invest In Oilsands Water Testing Facility At NAIT

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology is receiving $800,000 to construct an oilsands water testing facility.

Western Economic Diversification Canada is investing $600,000 while Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance is putting forward $200,000 for a high temperature, high pressure unit that will test membrane and other water treatment technologies designed by companies in controlled conditions that simulate oilsands in situ operations.

"This membrane testing unit continues a tradition of leading-edge applied research with industry partners, helping them to become more sustainable. I would like to thank the Government of Canada and Canada's Oil Sands Innovation Alliance for supporting this project," said Dr. Glenn Feltham, NAIT’s President and CEO, in a release.

NAIT says the testing unit will help develop 12 industrial water technologies used in oilsands and train and develop 12 highly qualified people.
