First Nation to explore legal action against LARP

A local First Nation says the province's long-term strategy for the oil sands region does not address its concerns.

The Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation saying in a statement released this morning, that the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan does not adequately protect treaty rights.

Instead, sets weak provincial environmental standards that don't address cumulative effects or the destruction of traditional territories and critical ecosystems.

Chief Allen Adam also indicated that the ACFN will be putting the plan before legal council, to explore potential litigation if need be.
