Food Bank’s March Hamper Challenge Underway

The Wood Buffalo Food Bank is kicking off its March Hamper Challenge.

Throughout the month, there will be several local media personalities living off a two-week hamper to experience what it is like to rely on the Food Bank.

Each participant will be given a list of food items that are found on a hamper list at the Food Bank and can only eat those items over the two-week period.

Typically, the hampers are made to last clients at least a month, but for the sake of the challenge, supplies are being cut in half.

If participants don’t abide by the list, they have to come clean about it.

Executive Director Dan Edwards says client numbers at the foodbank remain high and there is a one-week period to get an appointment.

“Unfortunately, there has been a decline in donations coming in since the holiday season, which is leading towards the possibility of us having to reduce the size of our hampers in the near future in order to provide something for everyone.”

The Food Bank’s goal is to provide the healthiest hampers possible and that can only happen with more food and cash donations.

Money from donations goes towards purchasing fresh items for their monthly food hampers.

The Food Bank is hoping the challenge encourages more community donations.
