Former Reform, Alliance, and Conservative MP David Chatters has passed away.

Chatters served as federal MP for Athabasca, including Fort McMurray, from 1993 until 2004 when the ridings were re-drawn.

He represented Westlock-St Paul until his retirement in 2006 due to health reasons.

Wildrose Leader Brian Jean issued a statement saying Chatters would be remembered for his "hospitality, kindness, and genorosity" along with his strong parliamentary record.

He passed away Monday evening, and is survived by his wife Evie, his two sons, and grandchildren.

Chatters was 69.
