Emotions were running high at the Nistowoyou Friendship Centre yesterday, as survivors and friends and family gathered to hear the residential school apology.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper read the landmark apology for decades of abuse yesterday, which led to many tears locally.
Both Lena Spence-Harden's mother and aunt were in the school system; she says residents should take the opportunity to sit down and talk with survivors, to learn more about what actually happened.
Many locally are hoping this'll lead to First Nations and Metis being allowed to get back in touch with their culture.
