Gregoire Lake Provincial Park Campground To Reopen Thursday

After being closed for roughly two-years, Gregoire Lake Provincial Park is set to reopen this week.

According to Alberta Parks, the gates to the campground will open at 4 p.m. Thursday, just ahead of the May long weekend.

The province says the day use area and boat launch will be open this weekend, however, some others sections will not be accessible as construction is on-going. A few trails will also remain closed due to safety concerns. As for the group use area, that is being expanded and will reopen next year.

In an email sent to Fort McMurray News last month, the Ministry of Environment and Parks said since its forced closure due to damage sustained in the Horse River wildfire, they've been able to update the park.

This includes adding 30 amp electrical services to all campsites and two loops also having water at individuals sites. All public buildings have been re-roofed and repaired from fire damage, the roads are repaved and widened, while new gazebos and extra parking have been added.

Certain trails have also been improved while a new emergency exit road has been created.

The Ministry notes there are still multiple projects underway including additional landscaping, adding signage, repairing the existing shower building, and work on the new central building that functions as a park office, convenience store, shower building and laundry.
