Health Care talks open today

Negotiations between AUPE and Alberta Health Services GSS begin today

Talks will open today aimed at getting a new contract for Alberta Union of Provincial Employees and Alberta Health Services.

The negotiations cover 23,000 members employed in General Support Services (GSS) across the province, that’s about 25 per cent of all health care employees in Alberta.

The first few days of talks will be dealing with issues around day-to-day operations and the organization’s internal communications, both outlined as areas of concern among members. Monetary proposals will occur on future dates.

The Conference Board of Canada forecasts Alberta will lead the nation with average wage increases of 3.7 per cent this year and the provincial government predicts Alberta Average Weekly Earnings (AAWE) will also increase by more than three per cent each year for the next three years.

In February, Alberta received a $1.03 billion health transfer from the federal government to help fund the provincial health care system.
