Influenza claims another two Alberta patients

The number of lives claimed by the annual surge of influenza virus continues to rise.

According to Alberta Health Services another two people have died, bringing the death toll to 17 so far this winter.

There have been more than 2,700 cases of flu in Alberta this season. In 707 cases, people were sick enough to be hospitalized.

A small number of additional vaccines have been secured but are only being offered to babies, six months of age.

The vaccine also continues to be offered to all children under nine who received a first dose already this season, and still require a second to be fully protected.
