Jane Stroud Officially Named NDP Candidate For Fort McMurray – Conklin

A Wood Buffalo councillor is taking the leap into provincial politics.

Jane Stroud, who's currently in her third term with Wood Buffalo's council, will be the NDP's nominee for the riding of Fort McMurray - Conklin - after being approached by the party.

The nomination was made official on Thursday night at the Unifor 707-A Building with Minister of Indigenous Relations Richard Feehan in attendance.

Stroud tells Fort McMurray News she wanted to join the NDP party because many of their priorities align with her's.

"The NDP's have done a lot for our region and I'm sure we can do a lot more. We've made some inroads."

In the coming weeks, Stroud plans on speaking with people across the riding to see what priorities and concerns they want to see be addressed.

"I want to fight for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, I want to be a strong voice, and make sure we get the services and infrastructure our region need."

Stroud will be going up against UCP nominee Laila Goodridge to become the next MLA. The remaining parties such as the liberals and Alberta Party have yet to announce a candidate.
