Keyano Huskies Announce Hiring Of New Soccer And Futsal Coach

The Keyano Huskies’ Soccer and Futsal programs have themselves a new bench boss.

Huskies Athletics announced Tuesday they will be hiring former Olds College Head Coach Macky Singh on July 1, replacing the outgoing Murad Sukru.

Singh brings a wealth of international experience – having been involved with programs all over the world.

He tells Fort McMurray News he’s excited about the challenge that’s ahead.

“The success with the men’s team is exciting but also I will be looking to replicate that success with the woman’s program and get it to a level that’s similar to what the men have recently enjoyed in the past.”

Singh’s international experience includes stints in New Zealand, where he served for eight years as head coach of the New Zealand Universities Women’s Soccer team.

He was also the head coach for the Football Association of Malaysia’s U-19 Women’s team.

Most recently, Singh was the head coach for the Olds College Broncos – where he coached four seasons, including the college’s first ever pair of playoff berths.

Last year, he was named the ACAC South Men’s Coach of the year.

Singh says he looks forward to bringing that experience to the Keyano soccer and futsal programs.

I’ve touched base with all the players via phone or email in the last day or two. But hopefully, we’ll set up some meetings with some of the local players who are based here. Hoping to meet up with them before the start of training camp when everyone arrives.”

In addition, Singh will serve as Technical Director for the Fort McMurray Youth Soccer Association.

With both new positions putting him at the forefront of soccer in Fort McMurray – he hopes to develop local talent into future Huskies.

“Long-term plan is to build a pathway from the youth association and Keyano where potential players from the community will hopefully aspire to one day play for the college, instead of leaving Fort McMurray to go somewhere else.”

Singh notes he’ll also be continuously scouring European markets to see if any players overseas have interest in playing at Keyano.
