Keyano Huskies Look Local For Volleyball Future

The Keyano Huskies Men’s Volleyball team have been fishing in the local talent pool for new recruits.

The college’s Athletics department announced Tuesday, that Ian Bruce and Simon Tremblay – both of Westwood Community High School – have signed letters of intent to don the Husky blue next season.

At their signing, both players sounded ecstatic in discussing their excitement to be playing at home and at the ACAC level.

Head Coach Keegan Kuhr tells Fort McMurray News both players will be fundamental to the team’s future.

“They’re both good kids with really great attitudes and they are really going to help us out with our depth. Not too mention, it’s local talent. It’s always nice to be able to keep local talent in town and utilize local talent that’s around us.”

Tremblay, who plays setter – said that he’s very excited to play for the college and it’s something he’s wanted to do for some time.

Kuhr says Tremblay will have to work on his speed and setting the tempo, but raved about his good hands and demeanor.

“With all setters, you really look at the way they can cradle the ball and set the ball. Simon does a lot of good things already. He’s got really good hands and we’re just excited to be working with him moving forward.”

Bruce, meanwhile is a bit undersized, but Kuhr feels the recruit will bring tremendous athleticism to the position and is looking forward to molding him into an elite talent.

“He’s just a really athletic kid with a really good attitude. He wants to learn, he had planned on coming to Keyano anyways and then when I mentioned the possibility of being apart of the team, he was all about it.”

Keyano is currently ranked 5th in the CCAA’s National rankings, and have a record of 13-2.
