Keyano Men’s Volleyball Team Raring For Redemption At National Championship

The Keyano Huskies Men’s Volleyball team has a big chip on their shoulder as they get set for the Canadian College’s Athletics Men’s Volleyball Championship.

The Huskies will be looking for some redemption after losing out on a provincial medal – and dropping to fifth in the CCAA rankings.

Despite that drop – Keyano was able to salvage a wildcard spot to Nationals, thanks to a strong 21-3 finish to the regular season.

Head Coach Keegan Kuhr tells Fort McMurray News the key to coming out on top this weekend will be to keep things consistent.

“The team that settles down is the team that will be the victor. If we can settle in, like in Medicine Hat, stay steady with our system, with our offence and our serving and I see no problems arising.”

Now as the wildcard, Kuhr feels it gives the boys a slight advantage – as they enter as a bit of a darkhorse contender.

He says they’re embracing an underdog mentality.

“We’ve accepted that we’re not getting the utmost respect from the CCAA’s and we’re okay with that. We’re okay with that chip on the shoulder, we’re okay with that role – we’re going to own it, play to the best of our abilities and hopefully go out and surprise Camosun.”

Keyano takes on the host Camosun Chargers, in Victoria, B.C., today at 7 p.m.
