Lac La Biche Winter Trail Closing This Week, Work Being Done on La Loche Bridge

The Lac La Biche Winter Trail is closing for the season this week.

At 12 p.m. on Friday, motorists will no longer be allowed to travel on the road – as the recent warm weather is causing the municipality to close the entrance.

Also, people looking to use the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road are getting a chance to, despite the trail being closed for the season.

The gate at the south end will remain unlocked until Friday, however, drivers will be using the road at their own risk.

Significant water ponding and rutting along the entire road is making the surface very slick.

Meanwhile, anyone looking to use the La Loche Winter Trail bridge will have to wait around two weeks.

Crews are restoring the river crossing after it was heavily used during the Horse River wildfire.

The RMWB will be replacing the existing timber decking and working on structural repairs to help extend the life of the bridge.
