A local baseball team is using their spring break for a good will trip south.
Players from Father Merc and Fort McMurray’s Minor League are heading to Cuba with school supplies and baseball equipment.
Baseball Coach Adam Campbell tells Fort McMurray News the teams will have a chance to play a few exhibition games, as well as have a chance to see how kids in other countries live.
“You know I think a trip like this, them having the opportunity to see how a third world country lives, will really will put things into perspective for them about how many opportunities they have here in our community and how good life is here in Canada, especially in Fort McMurray.”
Campbell adds from his own experience, he knows the trip will help build character in his players.
“I just thought it would be an exceptional trip, you know in terms of teaching the kids a sense of humility and them getting an opportunity to see how other kids live in the world live and how little they have but yet how happy they are.”
Campbell says they’ll be holding a fundraiser on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at the Canadian Brewhouse to help pay for the trip. Tickets are $10.00.
