A local educator being named as a nominee for the Woman of Inspiration Series.

Girls Inc in partnership with Syncrude announcing Lorraine Demers are their second selection for the awards which recognize powerful Fort McMurray females.

Demers resume includes work as a Public District teacher, music specialist, counselor, school principal and community builder.

"Its one of the highest honours you can imagine, a big surprise but indeed it's a great honour to be one many women that inspire others," said Demers.

Demers says her experiences motivating young women are among her most cherished moments in the classroom.

Adding, that those memories match the Girls Inc mandate.

"Being able to talk-one-one with young ladies that maybe didn't have the confidence, that lacked the self esteem to see they strength they had, and the abilities and just to support and encourage them and help them conect with other people, ways they could use their talents, and to see them blossom."

Demers, First Nation elder Elsie Yanik and ten other nominees will be honoured at the Women of Inspiration Gala in May.

The nomination deadline has been extended to January 31st.
