Man in critical condition after workplace fall

A man is in critical condition at an Edmonton hospital after a workplace incident in Fort McMurray.

Wood Buffalo RCMP was called to MacDonald Crescent at about 3:50 p.m. on Saturday. Corporal George Cameron says three workers were hooking up a flatbed trailer to a transport truck when a 56-year-old Vancouver man fell to the concrete and hit his head.

"Two of the guys were on one side talking, so what we think happened is this third guy was standing on the flatbed trailer and he fell. Fell on the pavement, smacked his head type of thing. And of course those two guys didn't know that he had done this," says Cameron.

Police say it could have been up to a 10 foot fall. A passerby saw the man injured and called police. The caller thought he was the victim of an assault.

"It sounds like he's probably, he's unconscious still so he's unable to tell us exactly what happened. But, just through our members' investigation, there's nothing to indicate that there's foul play," says Cameron.

Occupational Health and Safety is taking over the investigation. Fort McMurray News is awaiting further comment from OH&S.
