Monarchs Roll To 4-0 On The Season

It’s all systems go for the Fort McMurray Monarchs.

Fort McMurray is 4-0, following an 86-0 beatdown over the Airdrie Irish on Saturday – continuing their domination of the Alberta Football League.

Head Coach Jesse Maddox tells Fort McMurray News it was just another day at the office for his Monarchs.

“There’s not a whole lot you can say about that game,” Maddox said. “It’s one of those things where it’s just a stepping stone toward the end goal so, it’s a big win but realistically it’s about the little things again, just like last week.”

Five weeks into the AFL season and the Monarchs are a statistical anomaly – leading in every statistical offensive category.

That includes passing yards, rushing yards, total touchdowns and points scored.

Maddox says despite their staggering numbers – he still thinks there’s room for improvement.

“Based off the first four games, we’re averaging 62.5 points per game and defensively we’re averaging 8.25 points allowed, which is awesome but it’s what you do in the second half and going into the playoffs that really matters.”

Now with another bye week on deck, Fort McMurray has some time to recuperate and get refreshed.

They may need it as they head into a week 7 matchup with a Grand Prairie Drillers team that has not won this season.

Maddox says they can’t take any opponent for granted.

“Depends on how they travel, they’ve always been a tough team, but they do struggle to score points at times. Defensively, they are a tough group of kids, it’s just a matter of how they travel as they are in a similar situation as we are.”

Grand Prairie pays a visit on July 7 – at SMS Equipment Stadium, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
