The provinces new impaired driving laws are officially in effect starting today.
Under the legislation, motorists found with a blood alcohol level above 0.08 will face a sustained suspension of their licence until after their case is resolved in court.
Anyone found guilty of impaired driving under the new legislation will be forced to install an ignition lock system in their vehicle at their own expense.
The new laws also hold a zero tolerance policy for new drivers, those found with any trace of alcohol in their system will lose their licence for 30 days and have their car seized for one week.
