New Text 911 Service Available For Individuals With Hearing Or Speaking Impairments

The RMWB has made a service available for those who are dealing with hearing or speech impairments.

Assistant Deputy Chief of Communications with Regional Emergency Services, Kelly Roberts says these individuals can now report emergencies using a new 'Text with 911' service on their cell phones.

“This service is being made available to individuals who may not be able to make a phone call in an emergency,” Roberts said.

However, Roberts also adds that texting is considered more time consuming.

She reminds residents this could result in a delayed emergency response time.

“The service should only be used if a voice call is not possible,” she said

People can register for the service by visiting textwith911.ca.

Once your phone is registered with the service provide, it can then text emergency messages to Wood Buffalo Regional Emergency Services.
