Northern Gateway risk too much for British Columbia: report

The potential financial benefits posed by the Northern Gateway pipeline are not worth the risk for British Columbia, according to a report by Forest Ethics Advocacy.

The report says the province would receive only 8.2 per cent of the government revenue generated by the project, while incurring the most environmental risk.

The report also holds that Enbridge has failed to account for the enormous cost of an environmental disaster.

The operator is committing only $250 million to insurance, when marine spills often require billions of dollars in remediation.

Forest Ethics says the proposed Trans Mountain pipeline would pose the same risks, with little financial benefit.
