Notley Confident For an NDP Win in Byelection

An NDP win could be in the future for the riding of Fort McMurray-Conklin.

That’s according to Premier Rachel Notley who was in Fort McMurray on Thursday, campaigning with party candidate Jane Stroud.

She says they’re ‘confident’ the party will be able to win the riding – thanks to Stroud.

“We have an absolutely amazing candidate with a track record of serving this community that is unparalleled and we’re very proud that she’s stepped forward.”

They’re also confident that their track record will encourage more people to vote for them. This includes moving forward with Willow Square, helping more Albertans across the province find jobs, and getting the Trans Mountain expansion project underway.

Notley says the pipeline should be evidence enough that the provincial government supports the community.

“We know that it is fundamentally important to building our economy, we can and we will combat climate change and we can and will do that while we support the good energy industry jobs that the people of this city and this province rely on so much.”

The two also travelled to Anzac, Janvier, and Conklin.

Getting a chance to see the housing crisis, Notley notes the $1.2 billion of funding for affordable housing should be able to help these communities.

Meanwhile, Notley isn’t the only party leader in town.

Alberta Party Leader Stephen Mandel met with supporters on Wednesday at MacDonald Island Park, also getting a chance to meet more residents on Thursday.

United Conservative Party Leader Jason Kenney is also in town.

He, along with UCP Candidate Laila Goodridge, will be hosting a dinner fundraiser at Shell Place.
