One Man Dead, One In Hospital Following Crash On Highway 63 Near Fort McKay

One man is dead and another is in hospital following a collision on Highway 63 north of Fort McKay.

Wood Buffalo RCMP and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene just after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday roughly 3 km north of Fort McKay.

Police say a pickup truck heading southbound struck a wide load transport truck, which had pilot vehicles in the front and behind heading northbound.

The driver of the pickup, a 51-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 66-year-old man was transported to hospital by helicopter. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

The driver of the wide load hasn’t reported any injuries to police.

Highway 63 temporarily affected while emergency crews were on scene. All lanes have since reopened.

The Mounties say all possible contributing factors are being considered.

The investigation continues.
