St. Patrick’s Day is on Friday and Wood Buffalo RCMP will be patrolling to ensure everyone drinks responsibly.
Police will be spending extra time around the bars and areas they know will be hosting parties.
Corporal Erika Laird tells Fort McMurray News, last year, residents were quite responsible with their drinking.
“There actually wasn’t a significant increase in the number of calls or the number of charges that we had. Hopefully, everybody continues on with that trend.”
Though she didn’t have the exact numbers, she notes every year is different, some worse while others are better.
“Every once in a while, you’ll end up with a year that’s quite a bit easier and the next year everybody might keep calmer.”
She notes it’s common to see businesses doing “drive homes” making sure people don’t drink and drive.
