Potential Delay for Energy East Pipeline and Eastern Mainline

Applications for the Energy East Pipeline and Eastern Mainline could see a major delay.

On Thursday, TransCanada Corporation announced they were looking for a 30-day suspension of the applications due to the National Energy Board’s changes in their review of the two proposed projects.

Back in August, the NEB announced they would look at the environmental impacts of oil spills, potential consequences, proposed mitigation and response measures, as well as upstream and downstream greenhouse gas emissions, and the potential market impacts these gas reduction targets could have on the economic viability of the projects.

TransCanada notes the suspension would allow them to conduct their own review of these changes.

Due to the changes and possible suspension – the company has also ceased recording “Allowance for Funds Used During Construction.”

Meanwhile, if the projects do move forward, the Energy East Pipeline would carry bitumen resources from Alberta to Saint John, New Brunswick giving access to Atlantic markets. The Eastern Mainline Pipeline would see a new gas pipeline and related components in Ontario.
