Recent Rainfall Leaves Toll on Wood Buffalo

The recent rainy weather has left its mark on Fort McMurray.

According to Environment Canada, we’ve received over 75 mm of rain from Saturday to Monday.

This has led to a section of Highway 63 being closed due to a mudslide.

Alberta Transportation says the southbound lane that bypasses downtown should be reopened on Friday.

This all depends on a geotechnical report being done on the hill.

Tower Road has also been temporarily closed at the 6 km mark due to a due to a washout at the 8.3 km mark.

Meanwhile, the municipality is closing all sports parks for the time being to give them a chance to dry.

Residents are being asked to avoid using them so they don’t damage the turf.
