Report: Construction on Homes Doubling Across Wood Buffalo

Construction in Fort McMurray doubling the last two years combined.

That’s according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation who notes 785 homes have started rebuilding over the past year. In June alone, 105 rebuilds got underway.

The majority of these new starts are single-detached homes.

“The trend in housing starts for Canada reached its highest level in almost five years”, said Bob Dugan, CMHC’s chief economist, in a release. “So far this year, all regions are on pace to surpass construction levels from 2016 except for British Columbia, where starts have declined year-to-date after reaching near-record levels last summer.”

CMHC adds 212,695 units were started across Canada in June.

Meanwhile, 86 homes have finished their final inspection. Of these rebuilds, 25 are in Stone Cree, 22 in Wood Buffalo, 11 in Waterways, 10 in Abasand, 9 in Beacon Hill, and nine others in Timberlea, Thickwood, and Parsons Creek.
