Safer 63 movement reacts to Highway plan

A movement started on social media gaining traction with the provincial government.

Ashley St. Croix helped organize a peaceful protest, attended by more than 1,000 people in the wake of a tragic crash on Highway 63, which claimed seven lives on April 27th.

St. Croix says Premier Alison Redford's appointment of Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo MLA Mike Allen as a Special Advisor for the road shows that public outcry can spark change.

" I guess the community needs more visual effects, so we need to see what the progress is, we need to have more communication, and i think that at this point in time that's what were getting from the government, so we've asked for things, we've asked for attention and weve asked for some commentary and action and some plans and I think were starting to see that, "said St. Croix.

As Special Advisor, Allen has until June 29th to compile a list of recommendations to improve safety on the highway, including a timeline for twinning.
