Charged for improper water management, Suncor Energy is due in court today.
Alberta Environment has laid charges against the company for alleged contraventions of their approval to manage stormwater runoff at the Voyageur Upgrader site north of Fort McMurray.
The alleged activity resulted in discharges of stormwater, a mixture of rain water and dirt from the construction site, into the Athabasca River in May 2008.
In 2009, Suncor was fined a combined $850,000 in two separate environmental cases, one involving dumping under-treated wastewater into the Athabasca.
