Syncrude’s Mildred Lake Upgrader Expected To Return To Full Operation By End Of June

Syncrude’s Mildred Lake Upgrader is expected to return to full operations by the end of June after a fire last month caused an unplanned outage.

The blaze broke out on March 14thafter a line failure caused naphtha to leak. One person was sent to hospital as a result. An investigation and inspection show that damage was largely isolated to a piperack adjacent to the hydrotreater.

In a release, Suncor says they’re currently operating at reduced rates, but adds an accelerated repair schedule has been developed to restart pipeline shipments at roughly 50 per cent capacity in early May and return to full rates by the end of June.

Suncor notes they don’t expect the outage to result in a change to its overall production guidance for 2017, as other operations are expected to offset the impact.
