Syncrude To Return To Full Production In September

Syncrude is expected to ramp up to full production in September following a power disruption last month.

In an update Monday, Suncor says a preliminary investigation shows a transformer trip in Syncrude’s powerhouse onJune 20 resulted inrapid site wide loss of power and stream generation.

All process units were brought down as a result.

The oil giant notes power and steam systems have been fully restored and assessment and repair for the transformer are underway.

One coke is expected to return to service in the second half of July, a second one should be back in early August, while the removal of another is required.

“Coke removal is required on the remaining coker due to the nature of the shutdown. In order to mitigate the impact, Syncrude will investigate advancing some of the planned maintenance for this coker that had been originally scheduled for the fall of 2018 and spring of 2019,” Suncor said.

Pipeline shipments of treated product are estimated to be roughly 60 to 70 per cent of capacity for August.

Suncor expects full production in early to mid-September.
