Big announcements from the provincial Tories for Fort McMurray yesterday.
First, it was announced the land for both the Parsons Creek and Saline Creek areas of town have now been released. Affordable housing will take up about 20 percent of Parsons Creek initially. While Saline Creek will be a public-private partnerships.
Treasury Board President Lloyd Snelgrove made the announcement.
The two new areas of town, one in the southeast and one in the northwest, will house about 40-thousand residents.
Also yesterday was the official launch to construction of the five-lane Athabasca Bridge.
Actual work will start on Friday, and the structure will include tunnels at both ends.
The bridge will be the largest in all of Alberta once complete in 2011, covering 15,000 square metres.
It'll cost 127 million dollars.
