Two FMPSD Students Named To Minister’s Youth Council

Two students from the Fort McMurray Public School District have been appointed to the Minister's Youth Council.

Jeremy Christopherson and Krish Shah are two of 33 council members selected to share their diverse student perspectives with the Minister of Education and Alberta Education as well as provide input on educational issues.

Shah is one of the co-founders of EcoYOLO – a student-run initiative based out of cole McTavish focused on helping replant trees lost in the Horse River wildfire.

Just last month, Shah also took home second place honours at the Canada Wide Science Fair in Ottawa for his HALO - Heart Ability LOG and Operator. This is an app for smartwatches and phones that can monitor heart rates and detect sudden cardiac issues.

"Winning a Silver Medal and a Challenge Award was great recognition for the hard work I put in," said Shah, in a release.

Christopherson and Shah will join the other grades 7 through 12 students and attend three meetings in Edmonton in October, February, and May.

More than 300 junior and senior high students from across Alberta applied to be part of the council.
